Default Big Bird’s Favorite Birdie Bread

Melinda from ParrotsonthePorch.com made this recipe up when she was working at a rescue. She said it was big favorite among the older Macaws. It makes a very dense bread and a lot of it! She plans to do a book one day with all her proven recipes but she has graciously given me permission to share this recipe with you. Please be courteous and do not repost this elsewhere without her permission.

BIG BIRD’S FAVORITE BIRDIE BREAD

DRY MIX
1 c. Harrison’s Mash or ground pellets
1 c. Ground Flax
1 c. Spelt Flour
1 c. Quinoa Flour
1 c. Corn Meal
1c. Garbanzo Bean Flour
1 c. Oatmeal
3 T. Non-Aluminum Baking Powder
1 T. Cinnamon
1 t. Ginger
1/2 t. Garlic
1 T. Dandelion Leaf
1 T. Alfalfa Powder

WET MIX
2 Sweet Potatoes, cooked, cooled, mashed
2 Bananas, mashed
1 c. Applesauce
1/2 c. Red Palm Oil
4 Eggs
3/4 c. Soy Milk or Chamomile Tea ***You can do any substitution you want, as long as it's the same consistency. Carrot juice would be very good as well as blueberry or pomegranate juice.
1 15 oz. can Lentils
4 c. Fresh Vegetables, finely chopped
(add Blueberries to aid arthritis)
1c. nuts

Add dry mix, a little at a time to the wet mix until all is blended.
It will be VERY thick.
Spread onto cookie sheets covered in parchment paper.
The mix should be spread to about 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick.
Bake in oven at 350° for 35-45 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
Makes 2 LARGE cookie sheets full or up to 300 1” squares.
