Default Oz's story

For those that don't know Oz is a Greenwing.I was thinking last night I don't often tell Oz's story because she came here as a baby. So... On April 13th, 2002 we went to a bird show to get our 2 B&G's and 1 Quaker some toys. We were walking around and saw this baby GW for sale. Even though she was covered with pins she was a cute little thing and oh my was she wild. She was 9 mths old and had been with her parents since she hatched, never handled by humans until she was brought to the show. If anyone tried to touch her she would leap off the perch was on, run and hide under their table. John fell in love with her, so we walked around talking about bringing her home. I wasn't keen on the idea, I told him " I don't want no stinkin Greenwing", which he reminds her of all the time when she won't go to anyone but me Well he won out and so we went and bought her.

On the way home we were talking about names and he picked Oz, I told him I didn't like it if she turned out to be a girl. He responded with " It's not like she is going to go to school and the other birds are going to pick on her", he was right and won again. We got her home and when we opened the carrier she took off and hid in a cubby on my desk. We left here there while we set up her cage. Later on that night she was sitting where I could get close to her so I reached out to try and take care of some of her pins and she let me. I had her cage set up behind my office chair and would let her come out of her cage on her own. I would keep my back to her and act like I was ignoring her. It wasn't many days and she ventured to my chair to see what I was up to. I still took it slow and let her come to me each day. I don't remember how long went by, but it wasn't long and we were the best of friends. Now she is truly a spoiled Mama's girl

Since she never had any human contact until she was 9 mths old it is amazing how open she is to everything. I can do her nails with out a towel, wings too (back when I did clip), and if she is walking along the floor I can reach down and scoop her up by her beak. She is one of the few I trust on my shoulder and she is the only one I trust to hang on good when I'm doing other stuff. She lives in the upstairs bird room so she will often hitch a ride when I'm going up and down with water dishes. When I feed the other birds she will ride along on the seed/pellet container while I feed the other birds telling them hi and giving them kisses. She is the best talking bird I have. I often wonder if she is the way she is because she was raised by her parents. Either way I love her and wouldn't trade her for anything

BTW- She got me over the " I don't want no stinkin Greenwing" big time, now I have 9 of them

That is a great story. She turned out to be very loving towards you. Plus that you let her come out when she wanted to and not forcing her. What about your husband. Does she like him since he wanted her to begin with?

She does like John, unless she can be with her Mama
