Default Need Advice

We are in the process of looking for a blue and gold and have been researching cages. I have read all the past threads on cages and I think we have decided to go with a playtop style of cage however we cant decide on the make. is the kings cage 405 european large enough? we also like the looks of the avian adventures grande playtop any personal experience with either make would be great.

Thankyou, all of you on here seem so nice and friendly. I breed snakes as a hobby and in all these years have never joined a forum because of how cut throat and rude they can be to new people and each other. thank you for making me feel welcome. ryan

After having it recommended more than once in my search and doing my own research I would have to suggest the Kings 506. The bigger the better and for the money involved it's pretty much a no brainer. When it comes to big birds a play top doesn't mean much IMO because really theres just not much to play on. Your better off with the bigger cage where you can add a couple more toys maybe and buy a nice play stand of some type.

If you look at the size difference between the 406 and the 506, then the price, you are better off getting the 506. You get alot more cage for that $50. I am not a big fan of avian adventures cages because of the way they go together.

the bigger cage you can afford, the better. if there is only a $50 price difference between those two models, i would definitely get the bigger one. also, i agree with steve that "play top" doesn't mean a whole lot. it's nice to have a dome top so there there is more space to hang toys and then have a separate playstand.

i have no experience personally with either brand of cage. however, i have heard nothing but good things about king's cages. avian adventures i've heard a number of complaints about as far as the way they are set up.

also, welcome to the board

I have 4 Avian Adventures Cages and we love them! We have moved 3 times in 4 years so cages that can be assembled and disassembled quickly and easily is what is important. I would also like to add that looking over the cages there are no pinch points or dangerous edges for the birds. Best of all, our fids love these cages and so far they have held up very well to a variety of beak sizes.

I have heard good things about Kings cages too so either one would be a great option IMO.

I am also new momma to a B&G. I am also looking & researching for a bigger cage ? My question is: What are "pinch points"? Like I said I am new. I have a HQ flight cage for my Starling, and a don't know the brand stainless steal cage for my dove. A 32 gram bird can't do damage to a cage, but a B&G I must really do my research. For the mean time she is in a EZ Care cage, but it is better suited for a medium sized bird. I leave the cage door open all day while I am home. So it is used more like a play, feeding, and sleeping station. I would like to have a larger cage. Thanks for all the info -Adriana

A pinch point would be any place on the cage that would trap and pinch a bird's toes. If the cage has any bars that are not parallel and come very close together, then a bird could get its toes trapped there. You also have to check the spaces where the cage comes together, if there is a small gap because the cage walls do not come together smoothly, then this can create a pinch point too. Also look at the food doors and make sure they close without any small gaps.

Like everyone else said, the biggest that you can afford is best!

ya it is very hard to find a forum that actually cares about others and this is one of the few that do. I had a Boa before I got my six FIDs and made a tough decision to rehome him do to the fact that i had no extra room for him AND the birds, I have read too many horror stories of a snake causing a bird a heart attack, I love snakes and I would never think of bashing you for having one but may I offer some advice for you to try and put the snake living quarters in another room away from a birds sight?, if I had another room I for sure would have kept the snake, I find thm to be very intriguing creatures

like all the others said get as big of a cage as you can get, I have Hannah my B&G in a decent size cage but now after seeing the size of the rather large corner unit that I have Howie my Green Wing in I am really wanting to get Hannah a large one like that as well. Other than pinch points I would also suggest paying attention to the bar separation as well sometimes those crazy macaws are not paying attention to their surroundings while they are hard at play and will sometimes manage to get their wings out through between the bars and thus possibly get their wings caught or spook them enough to make the wring move and break their wing. all I am saying is just keep an eye on them and take notice if their wings happen to go through the bars once in a while.
Also really pay attention to the toys you put into the cage as well. just about a week ago Howie chewed all his wood off of a steel ring that was just barely larger than his head, we left it in there because he loved the bell that was hanging on it. luckily we were there the night he was playing with his bell and managed to get his head through the ring on accident, when he tried to get his head back out he panicked and started screaming and thrashing about. we got in there and freed him up, but if we weren't there then I am sure I would be typing a different story in here by now. So really pay attention to things like that is all I can suggest.
