Default I think the Honeymoon is over

Chatot has been lunging an threatening to bite most of the day today. I know that he is just trying to intimadate me to see if he can. So far it hasn't got him very far except to be called a bad bird and told no bite in a stern voice. He did manage to scratch my face with his beak it was a little to close to my eye for comfort so now when he's on top of his cage and I want to interact with him I stand on a stool because his cage is taller than me and I think he may be trying to dominate me. I never really believed that before and thought it was just a myth But since I got the stool I've found he doesn't try to bluff before he steps up he just steps up as if to say ok you win. I'll be a good boy and of course I give him tons of praise when he;s good. I also thought it might be that he is jealous of Darius because he was watching us play together today and he came down off his cage and started squaking at us I thought it was because he wanted to join in maybe anyway it was after this that he seemed to get aggresive maybe he was mad because I don't play with him like that. I don't know but I'm sure what ever it is we will get past it and eventually have a great relationship.

Awwwwww, I would guess that he may be responding to jealousy. If you play with one or the other separately, you might want to take them into a separate area out of sight of the other. I play with our buddies together because of that and it seems to work best for us.

I agree with the advice for separate mommy time. makes every one feel like they have their own piece of mom and they don't have to share. w/the more aggressive ones it seems to work better if they have private, ie different space sharing.

I've only had Chatot for `10 days I really don't want to push my luck by haveing them both on me at 1 time yet. Darius is very protective of me and I really don't want to get bit because he thinks im in danger or he' doesn't want me around another bird that he doesn't know. so playing with them together is not an option yet. I will just try to play with Darius in a different room than Chatot. I also give Chatot his time also and right now because we are at the getting to know each other stage in our relationship he actually gets more mommy time than Darius does with Darius it 10 or 15 minutes every couple hours and with Chatot it like a scritch and a treat every 1/2 hour plus 15 to 20 minutes of one on one play time every hour to an hour and 1/2. Most of the time I have no trouble with him but today he actually hurt me I had a black eye where he hit me with the point of his beak it hurts like heck

Playing with them together on the floor or bed happens slowly over time after the trust of all players has built, you are right...you will need to build trust first. So sorry you are hurting....(hugs)

You may want to be careful for a little while, there are not too many human body parts that can withstand the 800psi beak pressure of a jealous macaw. When i brought home Ozzy ( double headed yellow ) my hahns mac, who had never bit me before, took a huge chunk out of the back of my hand..
