Default Fruit from Chile

I was out shopping for Birdie veggies and fruits earlier today. The Grapes and Strawberries from Chile are on the shelves. I by-passed them and my birds will be having Blueberries, Star Fruit and Papaya this week.

I don't know the details because it was before my time in birds, but I seem to recall hearing that several Macaws from a small home rescue died very soon after eating some grapes from Chile.

So be sure to read the fine print on the package and check to see where that fruit is coming from.

Better safe than sorry!

I had a friend a few years back that lost most of his flock from feeding grapes from Chile and there was a few others stories I heard too.

Thanks for those links Michelle. How scary, I didn't realize they had found cyanide in some of the grapes.

It's sorta like drugs - just say no.

We always check the source of fruits and veggies, here. We don't feed fruit from Chile, and are very, very cautious about veggies coming from Mexico, as well as other places in the world.

I purhcased all organic. Is this okay? What about frozen berries. Since berries are not in season all year I buy frozen berries from Costco. Kirkland brand

Not sure on the organic, but all produce is required to be labeled for the country it comes from, so it should be on the package some where. I don't feed grapes at all because they are deadly to dogs and the birds like to throw them around.
