Question my kids Sunny & Jamies

I am looking for a female companion for my BG macaw Sunny. I put a posting on the new members but thought maybe I needed to place one here also. Sunny is 29 yrs old and is not herself lately. I have owned her for those 29 hrs. She used to be such an active bird and lately she has been laying an egg or two and sitting on them on the bottom of her cage. She has been to the vet several times. My questions here is a good place to find a female companion i/e rescue. I would like to have a hyacinth. Can you place a BG w/a hyacinth? Where is a good place to look for a female hyacinth?

I think finding a Hy as a rescue is slim to none Unless you are prepared to breed, regardless of the hybrid issue, you should get a female. And keep in mind even if you do get another Macaw as a companion for Sunny it doesn't mean they will get along at all where they can interact.

My second bird I got partly as a companion for my cockatoo but mostly as a teaching tool, modeling behaviour. It was successful in the 2nd instance but not the 1st. It was also sucessful in teaching about flock behaviour and teaching the "share the mama" concept....sort of....Adding another fid to the family is more about how much time you have for it. If you have not identified the reason for your current bird's decline, a new bird may accelerate the problem, mask the underlying problem, or it may fill your heart and life with lots of joy. whatgever you decide, good luck.
