Yeah, I am not sure how to prevent the RFM from jail breaking the Scarlet. From the outside, any smart bird could figure out how to unlatch the latches and the food bowl doors just have a triangle of metal that blocks the door when it is closed and just needs to be spun out of the way to unblock the door. You can always padlock the front door, but I am not sure how to really lock the food doors. I'm not at home at the moment so I am thinking from memory. There is also a nest box door that I cannot remember how it is secured. I have a smaller unused California cage that I love which would have been much easier to secure if I had ever needed to.

I'm glad if they come with a java perch now, they are so much better, and the java perches that King sells are wonderful.

Good luck! I hear those RFMs are too smart for their own good!

My severe and my Harlequin share a room of their own so I never bother to shut their doors they have so many toys, wood to chew,swings,ropes.Atoms.playstands.and chains to climb that I don't really have to worry to much I check all the toys and ropes for safety every morning to make sure they can't hurt themselves on anything and thats it they have a blast they only problem is that its all new to Darius to have all this stuff to climb on and play he's broken 4 tail feathers in the last 2 weeks so his tail isn't nearly as long as it use to be. He molting so I'm hopeing he will molt out the 2 longest feathers he broke the other 2 the groomer pulled so I know they will be coming in shortly

I don't have those kind of cages but I do have similar locks on food doors for christal. I believe the cage is AE (?). if she is out and has climbed on the cage, she will open it from the outside. the regular door latch she opens from the inside....She is on chain down all the time, much to her chagrin. Peachie, the cockatoo opens mostly anything, inside or out, and when in a cage with similar locks was on lockdown on ALL doors, food and front included.

What do you mean by chain down? Please explain what this is do you mean you chain your bird to the cage?

No, never fear. Doodadz meant the cage is locked down, not the bird. The locks that come with the cage are never sufficient for to stop a Houdini Cockatoo from escaping. And I've known more than one Houdini Macaw. I've always been lucky that I have never had any escape artists in my flock.

I not so lucky I have a Houdini African Grey that can even unlock combination locks she now has a custom built cage it is totally escape proof its also huge and its a real bogger if you ever have to move because it has to moved as is it doesn't come apart I wish I had one for each of my birds its a wonderful cage. I don't plan on moving anytime soon I own my home outright so I will be here until they carry me out.

Wow, combination locks! Is it the dial front kind or the ones with the three number turns on the bottom? Is she hearing the click or just patient to try every combo?
