Default Foraging

Anyone want to share what they do with their Macaws/ birds for foraging? I'm always looking for new ideas to try with mine.

I use coffee filters or regular paper to wrap up nuts. I use bagel tubes to hide nuts in. A few have their rock foraging boxes. Most all the macaws have balls that their some of their nuts go in at night. A few have store bought acrylic foraging toys. It always amazes me that they go for the nut they have to work for before the loose ones I put in their bowls.

So true...just goes to show that they 'want' to forage.

I like the wiffle ball idea. Krystal goes for the snap closures instead of the toys so she is pretty bored. I hang things from easily snappable rope so she doesn't get her feet caught but have been at a loss for foraging stuff for her. if she can't see what is in it, sort of, she is not interested. tried the coffee filter stuff, no go. some of my other guys like little treat boxes of cheerios, or other stuff. also those neat little carboard boxes from fast food pies and small food items work pretty well to recycle as forage toys.

A co-worker made treats for all of us in the office for Christmas and put them in those cardboard boxes that look like the boxes that they use for Chinese take-out. I was just about to throw it out when a lightbulb went off! I put his treats in the box and then stuffed it with tissue paper and tied it to the top of his cage with string. He loved it!

Be careful...when I went out to get more, some of them had metal parts. I used the ones that were cardboard only.
